The typical mitigation planning process usually involves 3 major components:
- Capability Assessment
(what do we already have, and what can we do with it?) - Risk Assessment
(what are the hazard risks/problems our community faces?) - Mitigation Actions
(what will we do about them?)
Through this process, we will be re-evaluating our risks and trying to determine what the best solutions are that we can implement to address those risks. Often a good place to start when addressing risk is with repetitive loss areas (those that have experienced multiple losses from flooding).
